Artist's statement:
What one may perceive at a glance is merely a grain of sand to the desert of emotions endeared by its fragile casing.
A face off is exposed where reality and fantasy, life and death, and sinner and saint play out their roles upon the same stage.
The darkness is stark, the light is blinding, and both are beyond tangible control.
The body and spirit are swept together in total chaos and perfect balance.

Director's comments:
This fine young artist continues to surprise me with her maturity, her power, and her absolute commitment to break barricades.
"A Life Unveiled" is a bold, new work for Hoogveld; any restraints shown in the earlier five works of her majestic series are clearly thrown into the wind.
Now the subjects of torture, bondage, restraint and perhaps even electrocution are seared into the fabric of a blistering tableaux; and one wonders how it came to be in the hands of a twenty-four year old artist.
Alicia is clearly exploring the darkest recesses of her psyche in this masterful work, and we can only wonder where her introspection and stunning lenswork will take us next.
