Artist's statement:

Some days all I have is music to heal my wounds.

It incarnates my alter ego, my dark side, the outlet when I am silenced, and the lightning rod to my creativity.

I discovered this powerful Hoogveld self portrait by accident, and was delighted on several fronts.

This stark image shows the artist's mastery of location lighting, of working with herself as an intimate subject, and finally, it reveals a graphic sexuality that is at a slow boil.

As a veteran concert photographer, I have seen thousands of images of rock stars, but rarely has that setting been applied to the photographer as her own subject as we see here in masterful repose.

What is clearly emerging in this young artist's work is a direction that speaks to the female persona, with its erotic, beautiful and haunting hallmarks.

I firmly believe that Hoogveld may soon emerge as one of Canada's brightest stars in this new exploration of introspective photography.
